About the Artist
“I hope you enjoy my website and that my original paintings provide you a quiet place to relax.” ~ M. Bannon
Background
Moving to Maryland in 1977 to complete graduate studies, she left behind in New jersey and New York an established following of collectors. After years of study with Tom Vincent, internationally known master of acrylic, and portraitists Anthony Ventura and Nancy Gosnell, she chose oil as her permanent medium.
A complimentary photography career blossomed after being awarded honor studies with David Ehrenpris Studios in New York City in 1975. M. branched into television production in 1981 with the creation of “Graffiti”, a cable TV show produced by kids for kids in Howard County Maryland. In 1999, she opened L’Atelier Gallery and Studios in historic Stevensville, Maryland.
With her subject matter and brushwork both influenced by the French landscape painters of the 19th century, Bannon gravitates to those gently mundane setting in which nature can be seen embracing the human community. This can often be seen in her work where a solitary figure is involved with nature.
Her impressionistic oil paintings show an emphasis on light, loose brushwork. As a naturalist, themes include gardens, vacation retreats, historical homes, wetlands and wildlife as well as macroscopic views of the land. Like impressionists, she renders the quiet scenes with a palette of intense greens and blues that are anything but quiet. Many scenes are reminders of how man and nature come together.
